Maria Jairet Irazu Aguilar

Tonalpoulque • Mesoamerican Teacher • Cultural Bearer

Mayra Armijo Ugalde is a researcher, teacher and cultural bearer devoted to the ancestral wisdom of Mesoamerica. Rooted in the lineage of the timekeepers, her work brings together Mesoamerican cosmology, symbology, philosophy, ritual and plant medicine traditions, creating a bridge between ancient knowledge and contemporary life.

A black belt and instructor in Xilam Mexican Martial Arts, Mayra is also an artist, author and lecturer whose work is dedicated to preserving and carrying these teachings forward.

Mayra Armijo Ugalde grew up inside a living tradition.

As a Tonalpoulque — rooted in the lineage of Mesoamerican timekeepers — her work reaches into ancient systems for understanding cycles, archetypes, human nature and our relationship to the larger world.

But Mayra's work is not about preserving ancestral knowledge behind glass.

It is meant to be lived.

She brings Mesoamerican cosmology, Pre-Hispanic symbology, psychology, philosophy and ritual into contemporary settings — from education and therapeutic work to business, community and personal transformation.

Keeping Time, Carrying Wisdom

Retreat Facilitator • Ceremonial Practitioner • Healing Arts.

Maria grew up in León, Mexico, in a family where healing, intuition and spirituality were simply part of life.

As a young girl, she massaged her grandparents and later cared for her younger sister through a long illness. She began noticing something she couldn't easily explain: sometimes when she placed her hands on people, their pain eased. Sometimes she sensed things before they were spoken.

Healing was woven through her family, and Maria came to understand her own sensitivity as part of that inheritance.

But natural ability was only the beginning.

Over the years, Maria has deepened her experience through plant medicine traditions, ceremonial practice, therapeutic bodywork and experience within retreat settings.

What began intuitively became a practice.

For Maria, facilitation is less about directing someone's experience and more about learning how to be fully present with it.

Her approach brings together intuition and practical experience — preparation, boundaries, discernment, safety, knowing when support is needed and when it is better simply to remain present.

For the past three years, she has worked within the San Miguel retreat environment, deepening her experience while developing her own way of working.

Today, Maria facilitates the intimate Vision Quest retreats in San Miguel de Allende.

She brings warmth, sensitivity, a connection to her Mexican heritage and healing traditions, and a quiet ability to meet people where they are.

No two journeys are alike.
Neither is the way they need to be held.

The Gifts Came First. The Training Came Later.

Holding Space

Maria has always experienced people in ways that go beyond what can easily be seen or explained — sometimes through sensation, imagery or an intuitive sense of what may be happening beneath the surface.

Her spiritual life is also deeply connected to family. She speaks of drawing strength from her father and sister, both of whom influenced her understanding of healing, and of approaching her work with prayer, respect and gratitude.

For Maria, these aren't techniques.

They are part of how she understands the world.
